Angola is the seventh-largest country in Africa and one of the fastest growing economies in the world…but unfortunately you may not offer have access to toilet paper when you visit. The country has been through many years of civil war and has only recently begun to rebuild.

What types of toilets are common in Angola?

There are many types of toilets in Angola, ranging from the most basic pit latrines to more modern flush toilets. The most common type of toilet in Angola is the pit latrine, which is a simple hole in the ground that is used as a toilet. In many parts of the country, they don’t even have toilets and people must go to the bathroom in the bush (which would definitely be a good place to have some TP handy).

Angola is an emerging economy though and flush toilets are becoming more common in urban areas. As the country continues to grow and develop beyond its violent past, flush toilets will likely become more and more common. The hard part is that they require a reliable water supply, which unfortunately is not yet universally available.

What about Travelers? How should tourists deal with it?

Angola has a lot to offer in terms of natural beauty, history, and culture. It is important to remember though that it is is a developing country and there are certain risks associated with travel there. These risks can be minimized by doing your research, staying informed, and being prepared…which may mean bringing your own toilet paper.

Conclusion

Angola is a beautiful country with plenty to see and do. Travelers might particularly enjoy visiting Luanda, the capital city, which offers stunning beaches as well as interesting museums and parks. Travelers can also head inland to explore the country’s picturesque forests, mountains, and rivers.

However, it is important to remember that Angola is a developing country and many areas of the region can potentially be dangerous. Travelers should stay aware of the political situation in the country and make appropriate preparations before visiting…which might mean bringing along your own toilet paper.
